Turning Your Waste into Valuable Soil

Food is about 24% of waste in landfills in the U.S. and about 18% in Maryland. Yard waste is about 6% of waste in Maryland. Composting can vastly reduce both numbers. Plus, who doesn't love getting valuable material from waste? Learn how to use composting to greatly reduce your garbage and build soil in your garden or elsewhere. We'll cover types of composting, needed tools, and common challenges.

Maybe it’s replacing a lightbulb, installing a new HVAC filter, tightening a screw, fixing a dent in the drywall, using caulking— you name it. Have no fear. You can do this! In this class, we’ll teach you how to do basic home repairs. Who knows? You might discover that you’re a master at this.

Household Energy Efficiency

And Renewable Energy

January 11, 2024, 7PM at CHurch In Bethesda

Our homes use about 22 percent of the energy used in the U.S. Gas and electric bills are a major expense for most of us. How can we make our bills lower, our homes more comfortable, and use fewer fossil fuels in our houses? We'll discuss installing and buying renewable electricity (like solar and wind), moving away from natural gas with heat pumps and electric or induction stoves, installing insulation to reduce energy use, and buying energy efficient appliances. We'll also talk about the financial incentives available through laws like the Inflation Reduction Act.

How To Read The Bible

In this three-week course, we’ll learn about The Bible- its origins, its major characters, how to read it, and how not to read it.

This class is free and all ages are welcome. Just bring yourself and a Bible if you have one. If you don’t have a Bible, no problem. We have plenty.

Guitar For Beginners

In this three-week course for beginners, we’ll cover tuning, basic chords, their variants, how to read tablature, and learn to play the song, “Free Falling” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

This class is free and all ages are welcome. Just bring a guitar.

Take Better Photos

In this three-week course, we’ll learn how to take better photos with smartphones. We’ll cover exposure, depth of field, and how to edit with Snapseed and Instagram.

In this three-week course, we’ll learn the basics of meditation- what it is, what it isn’t, and how to make meditation a part of a life where there is very little free time to spare.
