Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their way of life, imitate their faith.

—Hebrews 13:7

February 3, 2021 marks a year since we lost our good friend, Donna.

The picture of her here is how I remember her best. She always entered the church with “light” in her eyes. She wasn’t just coming to receive something, but also to add some of her spirit to the life of our community.

Every so often, Donna would grab my arm at church after worship, reach into her purse, and hand me a bundle of cash, saying, “This is for the person who said they needed help when we asked if anyone needed prayer. Can you please make sure that they get it? And don’t tell them where it came from.”

There’s something god-like about that. She didn’t care who got the credit. She just wanted to help.

Death is bitter, yet we all encounter it. It reminds us that this quality of life we are living now, is temporal. Yet, we live on. Perhaps in some other place with God, or maybe only in memory.

If the latter, I think a life becomes even more important to remember while we can. In our hearts, those dear to us still live, reminding us from within of a world that can be if we imitate them.

We miss you Donna.

Thanks for living a life that we all want to imitate.
