Reading
Whoever gives to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. Train your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.
A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty; rescue them, and you will have to do it again. Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. What a person desires is unfailing love.
—Proverbs 19 (OT)
Quiet
As your day draws to a close, spend a few moments in silence and stillness.
Prayer
Self-giving God, in the interconnected economy of grace I owe my neighbor a debt of love. Yet in making payments of kindness to my neighbor I’m lending to you, loans that you pay back, with interest. It’s a generous cycle of grace that I never want to step out of. Help me. Amen. (HC)
